The images above may look like a photos or maybe even highly detailed 3-d renderings but they are neither. They're actually illustrations created by Yukio Miyamoto in Adobe Illustrator.
His illustrations are just down right amazing. The only thing I can really say is "WOW"!

Surreal Award Opens

Version 2's crazy surreal show open for the AICP
kind of took me by surprise. The piece is gorgeous and so full of detail that I wish I had a copy of it at full rez. The vintage style/color palette seems really attractive to me amidst the waves of CMYK & RGB palettes we are constantly being barraged with on screen. In a few sections of the open, elements go outside of the expected viewing area to reveal faux letterboxing. A neat trick, that helps to wow the eyes a little and give the piece more depth. This piece also features some amazing sound design that really helps to push the surreal angle of the animation.

It seems that I can't get enough Kim Dulaney this week. She designed this with Jon Saunders
for Stardust, it was animated by Emmett Dzieza. This is the show open for the First Boards Award.

Blowing Smoke 2007

If you get a chance, you should try to make it out to Blowing Smoke. I had the opportunity to go to this last year with my motion graphics class and it was a great time. Blowing Smoke sets a stage for local animation and motion graphics professionals to display their work. Last year, it was almost reminiscent of an indie rock show. The slightly unprepared "MC" announced each animation studio, who then in turn takes the stage and says a few words about the work before launching into the animations. Last years crowd was jovial, laughing at the funny spots and cheering at the end of each "set", uh.....demo reel. Perhaps this was partly due the event being held the Five Spot, a local bar that is home to a very eclectic mix art work. One of the highlights from oh-six was getting to see the first episode of a cartoon network show before it aired on TV. In any case, you know what I'll be doing on July 23rd.

Adobe/Maxon's Power Integration Tour 7.17.07

Maxon, the makers of Cinema 4D are hosting an event with Adobe to push and demo Maxon's R10 & Adobe's After Effects CS3 collectively. Here are their selling points:

• Learn how to incorporate 3D into your 2D workflow

I personally will be showing up to see if I can learn anything about how to more effectively use these two programs together, as they are my main tools for making things move. They will also be giving away a copy of the newest version of C4D, which I desperately need. Although the Maxon/Adobe site only list one time for this event, they are actually doing this twice.

Cyclomania 2007

This is the logo I created for Cyclomania 2007 (Atlanta's Bicycle Pub Crawl). The tagline is "Get Bent". I'm pretty happy with it so far. Now it's time to create a branding system that works well with the logo.

Kim Dulaney

Kim Dulaney is someone who I admire alot. Her imaginative style and bold color palettes are something that I hope to rival one day. I think is says a lot that Kim can have such a distinctive/abstract style and still work on motion boards for clients who are as corporate as Wal-Mart or GM. Here is the episode of PSST!2 that she was apart of.

Ummmm..... Holy Schmokes! This guys flash work is fucking amazing. I'll be honest, I'm not really into flash. Or better yet, I wasn't before I saw this video. So this may not blow everybody elses minds like it blew mine. Granted, the work is super trendy. But I can guarantee that the site is worth a look.

I am currently questioning what I should even write here. Ever since the 3rd grade I have written in journals (analog & digital). I still write in the journal that was given to me by my high school sweet heart in ninth grade. But times have changed, and somehow I feel that deep, introspective post are no longer appropriate or appreciated. Hence the word Blog, as opposed to digital diary. I almost feel as if it is necessary for me to select a theme now so that I can remain consistent with my content. Then there is the issue of potential employers checking out your site and the possibility that they may see something that they dislike and not hire you, or even worse if you are already employed, fire you. There seem to be all these rules.

Somehow, I never really seem to be able to follow all of the rules. I am starting this journal, blog, diary, whatever. Well, I guess we'll just see what happens.
